Greek School 2007-08 For the academic year 2007-08, the Greek School at Holy Trinity began in the middle of September and will end at the end of May. Classes for different grade levels are from Monday to Friday with each class attending one day a week. An afternoon Greek School program is not unique to Grand Rapids, but this one has had students participating for 70 years. Our teacher,
Mrs. Ereni Stavrou, has been teaching here for almost 45 years yet
still maintains a vitality and interest in the youth of the church.
Each student is responsible for both a reading book and a workbook.
Because reading, writing, and grammar are the basics, it is
important that parents realize that merely attending classes is not
enough. Parents must work with the students outside of class with
their homework. In addition, Mrs. Stavrou works on conversation,
which includes family life, church life, and other related topics.
Historic Greek and religious holidays are emphasized. The biggest
project of the year is the Greek Independence Day program and all
students participate in this. In addition, there are also Christmas
and end of the year programs, where the students learn songs and
poems. This year, 2007-08, there are 24 students attending with a ratio of 15 girls to 9 boys from 17 different families. Students must be at least 7 years old and at least in the second grade in regular school to matriculate. Please contact the Church for more information on any of the
Greek classes at
